Oak (Quercus robur)
This essence helps to balance one’s life so that meeting one’s obligations, (being as strong as an oak) are put in perspective, giving time for rest, renewal and pleasure. This encourages a more harmonious life where high ideals are still held as a positive quality, but struggle and sacrifice are no longer the driving force. The way of life to persevere, never to give up, is held as a value, in perspective, without the extreme intensity. There is then an opportunity to open to their sensitivity, compassion and lightheartedness so that life is not so serious or difficult. There is a knowing that a greater guiding force is in play when one opens to it. This allows the human aspect of a person to “let go and let God.”
Oak types never take the easy way. They sacrifice for their family or an external cause without complaint. They see life as a struggle and rise to the occasion with super human endurance and will power, being driven by a sense of duty and high ideals. They work overtime, denying themselves any pleasures, and not allowing themselves opportunities for relaxation or joy. Their ability to be playful is almost non existent. They override their higher self, pushing to exhaustion and/or breakdown, physical or mental. Beneath their strength there is an unacknowledged sense of loneliness and personal unfulfillment. They always feel the need to do more and never ask for help.
