What's In Your Skin Care?

One of the surest ways of polluting our bodies is through the topical application of skin care products that contain harmful ingredients. Do not underestimate the absorptive powers of the body's largest organ! Contemporary medical research shows us that measurable amounts of chemicals are found in various body tissues as a result of their use on the skin. The long term effects of ongoing exposure to harmful chemicals are still being documented and, so far, suggest an increased susceptibility to serious diseases. Make it natural! Your body will thank you.

Some common chemicals in skin care:

FD&C Dyes: Artificial pigments made from coal tar and containing heavy metal salts, release toxins onto the skin, causing irritation. Studies show that they are carcinogenic in animals.

Fragrance: The listing of "fragrance" suggests the presence of up to four thousand individual ingredients, many of which are toxic or carcinogenic. Symptoms of headaches, dizziness, allergic rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing and vomiting, and skin irritation are reported to the USA FDA. Studies show that fragrances often affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, and irritability.

(PEG) compounds:
Potentially carcinogenic petroleum derivatives, which can cause an imbalance in the skin's natural moisture factor, thus causing premature aging and bacterial formation. Commonly used in cleansers to dissolve sebum and makeup.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES):The combination of SLES and ALE with other chemicals can create nitrosamines, or carcinogens. They are often used in semi-natural cosmetics with the disclaimer, "comes from coconut".

Stearalkonium Chloride: Often used in conditioners and creams as a cheap alternative to botanicals that provide real therapeutic value, this chemical causes allergic reactions.
